Find out reason for error 550 from smtp server

Hello,

I tried multiple things but all failed. I still get the following error from the Strato smtp Server (to address modified).


Apr 6 19:34:11 www postfix/smtp[95066]: 65FE0F0060C: to=<***@gmx.de>, relay=smtp.strato.de[81.169.145.133]:25, delay=0.4, delays=0.19/0.02/0.14/0.04, dsn=5.7.0, status=bounced (host smtp.strato.de[81.169.145.133] said: 530 5.7.0 Bitte konfigurieren Sie ihr E-Mailprogramm fuer Authentifizierung am SMTP Server, wie auf www.strato.de/email-hilfe beschrieben. - Please configure your mail client for using SMTP Server Authentication (in reply to MAIL FROM command))

I have compiled postfix with dovecot sasl. The sasl_passwd file is available and converted to db format. The file is listed in the main.cf

smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes
smtp_sasl_type = dovecot
smtpd_sasl_type = dovecot
smtpd_sasl_path = private/auth
smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/usr/local/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
sender_canonical_maps = hash:/usr/local/etc/postfix/sender_canonical
smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous

Is there a way to get more info what failed? /var/log/maillog does not show much more details that help. Also the dovecot log file shows no errors.

Any idea?

You need to authenticate before you sent email at the strato server (smtp
auth).

Yes, login was the problem. I used dovecot which does not support client auth. So I had to install Cyrus sasl packages.
