(too old to reply)

Hi!
I'm using postfix 2.3.8 and everything is correct. ;-)
But some of my users are receiving TNEF (winmail.dat) attachments and cannot opened it correctly.
As far as I know, TNEF if just another proprietary method of packaging files
Is there a way, on my server, to convert it to a zip file ?
TNEF is a Microsoft-specific MIME "alternative". It is not really anagous
to a Zip file, it contains a message body and some attachments with
various rich-text and other features.

Sites sending TNEF intot the public Internet are broken, the problem
needs to be fixed at the source. Rejecting "winmail.dat" is perhaps a
good way to encourage the senders to complain to their own IT department.

so their friends/collegues/whomever are sending them mail they cannot
read. the answer is to tell the sender to configure his outlook
correctly, or to stop communication otherwise. This thing is called
Internet email, not microsoft network messaging.

I once had a guy replying that his MS office version was too old and
could not read my .doc. I still hear the laughs in our dept...

while there are tnef libs around (see the xamime site for instance),
converting mail is not a risk-free game.
Do I missed something ?

forgot to mention: it was a unix binary renamed as a .doc, to punish the
sender...

Hi!

Many thanks for your replies.

I find the following article "ytnef_smtpd: SMTP proxy for Postfix"
http://www.viraj.org/ytnef_smtpd/README

This seems to works with postfix

Would you recommend it ?

Any experience with this product or a similar one ?

I'm looking for a solution very similar to this one.

My RHEL 4 server is using python-2.3.4-14.3

Thanks again,
Eddy

Hi!
Many thanks for your replies.
Please FIX YOUR MAILER. Sending mail to ***@free.fr will not do
you much good. I am not using a Reply-To header because it looks good.

converting mail is often feasible, but is not risk-free. I have nothing
more than this to say, so please do not CC me anymore.
